Year Zero was born in Riga, Latvia. Previously called Sistinas, band gained its present name in summer of 2005.
Band started as a project of drummer Brr0nth and guitarist MaximuS, Olga on vocals and keyboard, Tom on lead guitar, later also recruiting Kiriller on bass/additional vocals and Lexus as a keyboard player.
Year Zero played then a kind of Gothic metal, though its music also had a strong influence of Middle East.
In a middle of September 2005 band participated in a show named Neo Metal Gathering, in club Depo, Riga. 3 more bands played in this show, and funnily, YZ was the only band with a live drummer performing on stage - other bands preferred to use drum machines. YZ performed also 2 cover versions, "Empty" of Anathema and "Jihad" of The Kovenant. Vocals by Olga and Kiriller were kindly supported by guest singer Katrina.
In a few days after this show a long-time singer and a "front lady" of YZ Olga decided to leave the band. Also, a youngest member, leader-guitarist Tom had to quit the project due to his studies.
After that, other members of YZ decided to go on with the project and to continue working on new songs. Lead vocals are now performed by bass-guitarist Kiriller.
In the December 2005 a violin player Aziza joined the band, supplementing YZ music with her authentic electro-violin sound.
Later, a new backing vocalist Emily also joined the project.
In July 2006 band finally released a long-awaited mini-album, Timedemo. The CD was ready just in time before band's performance in the Metalshow Open Air metal fest in Blome, Latvia.
Just after the fest, one of the band's founders, drummer Brr0nth decided to split his ways with the band.
